Use it, or lose it

The opening lines in a recent letter to the Tribune read “This bus service (local link 413) rattles past my home every day and I’ve never seen more than three people on it.”  To find out why so few use this service, your intrepid reporter plucked up courage, broke the habit of a lifetime, and took the bus to town. I choose the week before Christmas and jumped onto the 413 Local Link bus which I hailed outside my home in Glinton; half an hour latter I was shopping in Queensgate. The return journey dropped me outside my front door, and all for just £2.80 return – free for bus pass holders.

I really enjoy the TV quiz programme ‘QI’, hosted by Stephen Fry – he always seems so authoritative, though he clearly has material prepared for him.  However, in the first book version of the quiz, I discovered answers which were not correct, or at least questions to which there might be another answer. Unwanted development is proposed in the heart of Northborough; 
Now Helpston is a target for more growth proposals;
Etton becomes a peninsular in a sea of mineral extractions;
A mixed industrial/housing idea extends south from Mkt Deeping;
Road and rail schemes may make their own demands;

Community Car Club

A community car club is being considered for the Deepings. This would enable people living in the area to access vehicles for personal use. A bit like a ‘pool car’ scheme. An on-line survey is being undertaken to establish the likely level of support for the scheme. [click to continue…]

If you’ve driven along Helpston Heath Road recently, you may have seen a drilling rig in the fields at the junction with Stamford Road. This work was undertaken by the Environment Agency and is associated with a major pollution incident at the nearby landfill sites known as Ben Johnson’s Pit and the Ailsworth Road Waste Disposal sites.
