About the Trib’

Background
The Village Tribune celebrated its 13th anniversary in October 2009. Initially started as a Parish news sheet for the villages of Peakirk and Glinton, it was extended to cover Northborough, and, under the editorship of Peter Marshall, was produced four times a year.

In 2003, current editor Tony Henthorn re-designed the Tribune with Rector Nigel Fry, and in 2004 it was decided to incorporate the Benefice news sheet and produce the magazine six times each year. In February 2006, the Tribune announced the arrival of Rector Michael and the extension of its’ area to now cover Helpston, Maxey and Etton in addition to the current 3 parishes (Deeping Gate – officially part of the Maxey Parish, was added in May 2006). Hilary Geisow joined the Benefice as Priest in Charge in Summer 2008.

Purpose
In producing the Tribune every two months – we are conscious of a number of ‘unwritten’ requirements. Principally, The Tribune is a communication mechanism for the individual parishes and the Benefice as a whole to speak (and listen) to their existing congregations. It should also promote the good work of the parishes and Benefice in such a way that it encourages others (non-church-goers) to actively seek out the Church.

The Tribune is also a vehicle for informing/ entertaining and educating the non-church-going populace.

The Tribune tries to create a pleasing mix of church and non-church activities, articles and events. It aims to give equal space to each of the parishes it represents, and endeavours to publish any item that its readership submits (so long as it’s legal, decent, honest etc.).
