For those of you who read my blogs on Langdyke World, you will know that I sometimes refer to the paddock next to my property. This appears as Site HO84 on the Peterborough Site Allocation proposal DPD. As documented in the current Tribune this is one of 2 sites in Helpston currently being recommended for building on in a proposed extension of the village envelope. THE first main line steam locomotive to be built in Britain for nearly 50 years came through Helpston on Saturday 7th February. Tornado, which has been constructed at a cost of £3m, pulled her first train last month and departed her Darlington home to haul her first train to London. The train, known as The Talisman, consisted of 13 carriages travelling at speeds of up to 75mph. Top left, Helpston residents eagerly await the arrival of the loco, above, Tornado shortly after passing over Maxey crossing. Photo Marian Connor.
