As I am sure you know, because hopefully you were there, this years Northborough Big Top Fun Day took place on Sunday the 12th September, and what a great success it was. (see the first photos elsewhere in the Tribune). The event was opened by the Mayor of Peterborough, with our Ward Councillor, Peter Hiller in attendance, without the financial support of Peter Hiller’s Leadership Fund such a successful event would be difficult. The weather was good, except for one shower which sent the large crowd running for shelter for ten minutes, the fly pa
st took place, just the sound of a Spitfire is so emotive, and the Bands were great and proved a great attraction. There were too many other events to mention here, but the photos will provide the memories of a good village day out
This event is organised by a Parish Council Working Party of seven volunteers (four of the seven are not Parish Councillors) who work almost year round putting the plans together. I was going to name them here, and thank them for all their effort, but being such modest, shy, shrinking violet
s, they asked me not to, but we all know who they are, don’t we?
The Village Playing Field looked very tidy for the Fete, although only a couple of weeks earlier vandals damaged the tables and benches, daubed some of the play equipment and bollards with graffiti, climbed on the Hall roof, damaging the surface and tore the TV aerial down. The seats have be
en retrieved from the dyke and repaired, the graffiti removed and the climbing points onto the Hall roof have been painted with non drying paint. The Police and the SaferPeterborough Partnership are investigating all reports of anti social behaviour. To assist in their investigations they would like to hear from you if you have experienced or witnessed any problems recently. Any information you provide will be treated as confidential, if you wish to talk to someone please call 01733 747474 and ask for the SaferPeterborough Partnership, or call the Police, Norm McCullum, on 0345 456 456 4
We must not let this group of vandals spoil all the work we do to keep our Village a good place to live
There will be another Speed Watch
exercise undertaken in the Village in the next few weeks
A recent Parish Council Meeting received a presentation from Philip Peacock from ACRE who advised the Parish Council on the best way forward regarding the issue of a lease for the Village Hall to guarantee its long term future, and fund raising abilities
A report was also received from th
e Parish Council Representative on the Northern Footpath Forum, which detailed the current plans and developments being explored, and, some rather disturbing news regarding the footbridge over the Maxey Cut, at the end of Paradise Lane. More on this in the next few months.
The new road markings on Chur
ch Street, around the School, should be completed by the time this report is published. We will watch to see if the intended improvements, to the irresponsible parking, materialise
The Parish Council Village Enh
ancement Committee meets again next month with ideas for further Village improvements, albeit within tight budget constraints. If you have any ideas you would like considering, let us know
Not wishing winter, or indeed Christmas, on us all too soon (it’s less than 100 days to go) but just a reminder for your diaries. There will be a Christmas Tree lighting ceremony again this year, on the 4th December. Carol singing, music, mince pies, lights, mulled wine and something special?
Regards

Re the yellow lines in Church Street: While I agree that something needed to be done to address the parking at school times, you have only pushed the problem further along Church Street, and into The Pingle. We now have cars reversing out of Pingle Lane blindly so that they can turn round, and they block clear views of residents trying to turn into Church Street. Surely the answer to irrisponsible parking is not to push the problem elsewhere.
