Crown Planning Application received

by Tony Henthorn on February 28, 2009

Peterborough City Council have received a planning application to demolish the Crown pub on Lincoln Road, Glinton and build six two-and-a-half storey, 4-bedroomed semi-detached houses. The application is also for six two-storey self-contained apartments, two of which would be 3-bedroomed and four which would be 2-bedroomed.

Anyone who values village life should object to this application on the grounds that it is too large and in an unsuitable position. Glinton is a “Village of Limited Rural Growth” and attempting to put this many houses on an area as small as the Crown site is not “limited” but “saturation.” Given the number of people who could be living there, we might expect, as a minimum, 18 cars trying to get in and out of the development and onto Lincoln Road right in the middle of the traffic calming!
I accept that being a “Village of Limited Rural Growth” means there must be some development, else there would be no growth but this is trying to pour a quart into a pint pot, something that would have been more appropriate when the Crown was a pub ……………… now there’s an idea!!

Don’t you think with these houses going in we need a better shopping facility the 3 shops we have will be inadequateall the petrol and diesel used to drive to Deepings or Peterborough
or will our good local bus have more use?

Instead of Peterborough City Council rebuilding the primary school on a new site, why not buy the Crown site and convert it into extra classrooms and a bigger playing field for the primary school?

Why not keep it as a pub and sell it. It’s in a great area for a pub and great for locals.

I agree with B.Bannister. Can we not turn it into something useful like a Laser Quest? Surely this is the most sensible of the available options given the current economic climate?

I would love to buy it and convert it into a well sound-proofed music rehearsal studio – give something back to the music community. It is too good a building to break down.

I would love to open this as a pub/restuarant, I keep looking at it, it is a great building, such a shame to knock it down!!! or a club for children to teenagers in the area, as there is a huge lack of things for young people to do in holidays, so some sort of youth club etc would be great also.

The Crown should be brought back to the great pub it once was,Especially since the Blue bell is set to close and leave us with no pub at all.
