Emma Windsor and Peter Fox of Balcony House have recently refurbished a barn within the grounds of Balcony House as a holiday cottage. Some of you may remember the barn or even have been there, as it was once home to a montessori nursery school. Emma and her former husband bought Balcony House some 9 years ago and although the nursery school was still there it was no longer used. Emma set about converting the building back to family accommodation and following her recent marriage to Peter decided that the time was now right to start her own business and get back into the workplace.
“Balcony House is beautiful home but expensive to live in so it needs to earn its keep.” It took some persuading on her part to convince Peter that customers would want to come and holiday in Glinton, “Glinton is a beautiful village with lots to offer. There are attractions like Burghley House close by and plenty of delightful walks, why wouldn’t anybody want to come and stay here?” A friend once told her that she would never want to go on holiday again if she lived here and that remark was never forgotton. The Barn at Balcony House idea was born. Much work has been undertaken to bring the property up to the standards required for rental and planning permission had to be granted, after that it was all systems go. Bookings are already rolling in with guests staying from as far away as Queensland. “It is fascinating to meet our guests and hear why they have come to visit Glinton. So far, all have left having thoroughly enjoyed their peaceful break away from it all and we are looking forward to welcoming many more visitors here.”
The Barn offers open plan living on the ground floor with an open fire and views of our gardens beyond. On the first floor there is a large bedroom with original beamed and sloping ceilings and a spacious ensuite bathroom. The barn accommodates up to a family of four four and a well-behaved dog, with a king size and childs single beds upstairs and a sofa bed downstairs if required. All bedlinen and towels are included in the rent along with a welcome breakfast pack of homemade croissants and fresly laid eggs from their own hens. Emma is renting the property out through Sykes Holiday Cottages, telephone 01244 356666, www.sykescottages.co.uk, property ref 4548. 3 night weekend or mid week breaks are available as well as 7 night holidays. If preferred, you can contact Emma directly on 07718093167. There maybe some opportunites for single night occupation out of season.
Give Emma a call to see. Spread the word and if you have any family members or friends needing a place to stay in the future when they are visiting the area remember to tell them about the barn. Emma and Peter look forward to welcoming them.
