Malcolm in the middle

For the Lowe-Lauri’s of Glinton, it was a double celebration as eldest son, Richard, attended St James’s Palace, with mum Sue on Thursday 26th March,  to receive his Gold Duke of Edinburgh award in the presence of the Duke of Edinburgh.

On Friday the whole family experienced the magnificence of Buckingham Palace and the honour of the investiture ceremony as the medals were distributed by the Prince of Wale; he spoke individually to each recipient about the reasons for the honours. Malcolm received a CBE for his contribution to the National Health Service, principally for his work at Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where he was chief executive for six years from 2002 – 2008. Following a rather blustery and cold wait in the Quadrangle for the official photos the family joined other family members for a celebratory lunch at the Kensington Roof Garden Restaurant.

Congratulations, Eldest son and Malcolm; like father, like son, obviously… Well, no surprise there, Malcolm; CBE, eh? almost as good as an RVM… From those of us who monitor from the sidelines (with the benefit of hindsight) (and I know for sure that I am far from the only one) go for it, Malc. You’ll be running the whole show before too long – and will make a much better fist of it, too!! All the very best.

Allan
