Anyone for tennis?

by Tony Henthorn on August 2, 2010

The Helpston Junior Tennis tournament was held on Sunday 18th July.  Eight juniors, ranging from 7 to 14, took part in the singles competition knock out and the final was contested between Thomas Astle & Max Crowson with Max coming out on top.   In the afternoon the juniors paired up with their fathers to play in the doubles round robin tournament.  There were some amazing rallies on a very sunny afternoon which was enjoyed by players and their supporters.  The pairs accumulated points all afternoon and there had to be a sudden death game when there was a draw in points between Thomas & Richard Astle & Alex & Nick Jones.  Alex & Nick had three match points but we unable to clinch the match and last year’s winners, Thomas & Richard were declared the 2010 doubles winners.  There was a tombola to help toward the cost of a new club roof.  The Helpston tennis club has been in existence since 1922 and this year has 27 junior members.  We hope that the village  & surrounding villages continue to support us and if anyone needs any information about the club please ring Margaret Holden, Secretary on 01733 252472 or e-mail on mvholden@tiscali.co.uk
