Environment Agency’s Regional Flood and Coastal Committee

Lengthy meeting of the Environment Agency’s Regional Flood and Coastal Committee on Friday with fellow members of surrounding local authorities, the NFU, Anglian Water and various independent experts in their fields; wherein we discussed and evaluated our £222m 6-year budget, 77% of which is allocated to coastal flood risk management and 23% on inland FRM.

We had details of Network Rail’s partnership plan for Werrington Brook, north of Peterborough, and Peterborough Flood and Water Management Partnership flood alleviation work in Cllr John Holdich’s Glinton and Wittering ward. We were also updated on the Fens Waterway Link project, which will be designed to link the cities of Lincoln, Peterborough, Ely and Cambridge – though I daresay a good many years off yet. The £14m Whittlesey Washes bank work is pretty much completed, ahead of time and below budget.
