Lolham 'death trap'

Drivers are continuing to ignore the 'new' one way system at Lolham Crossing and are increasing the dangers to oncoming traffic. This photograph shows drivers heading 'in the wrong direction' at 7.00am this morning and was taken by David James. Numerous locals have been appealing for the City Council to make the signage 'clearer' and emphasise that this is a mandatory and permanent situation, not just a temporary measure. Vicki Wolfe told the Tribune: " I've stopped using the crossing - I thought that when the new one-way system was in place that it would be safer, but it's worse than ever - it's a death trap. I'd rather add a few minutes to my journey and get home safely than dare face the idiots travelling the wrong way."

Mrs A Chambers

I travel south over Lolham crossing twice a day and more often than not I am still faced with drivers coming from the opposite direction ignoring the no entry signs. Do these people think they are exempt from abiding by the law? Or just bone idle to travel back via Maxey or Tallington crossing like the rest of us. These people need to be prosecuted. However although I am in favour of the one way system, I do think the city council could improve the situation by adding a cycle lane and additional no entry road markings. Or have we got to wait until there's a serious accident?
