Helpston’s annual Christmas light switch-on brought the village together in fine festive style on 7 December, with what organisers described as the best turnout the event has ever seen. Villagers of all ages gathered to celebrate the start of the Christmas season, creating a warm and lively atmosphere in the heart of the community.
This year’s event was organised by the Helpston Community Activity Team (Helcats), whose team of volunteers once again delivered an evening full of seasonal cheer. The lights were officially switched on by local residents Stephen and Pat Jackson, whose involvement was warmly appreciated by those attending.
Adding to the excitement, Santa Claus made a special early appearance ahead of his busy Christmas schedule, much to the delight of younger villagers. The sound of traditional carols filled the air thanks to the choir from St Botolph’s Church, accompanied by a local brass band, helping everyone truly get into the Christmas spirit.
The village Christmas tree proved to be a particular highlight, drawing plenty of admiration on the night. The organisers extended their thanks to the Parish Council for its grant support, and to @tallington_farm for supplying the tree, which many agreed looked especially impressive this year.
The Helcats say the strong turnout reflects the continued community support they are fortunate to enjoy. With around ten volunteers currently involved, the team is keen to welcome new members who would like to help organise future events and activities for the village.
