In 2026, Peterborough & District RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association) celebrates an incredible milestone — 60 years of supporting people through the power of horses.
Since being established in 1966, the local group has been part of the RDA movement, helping provide opportunities for people to enjoy riding and benefit from time spent with horses in a supportive environment. As the charity celebrates six decades of its work, it is asking local residents, businesses and community groups to help ensure this valuable work can continue for years to come.
RDA provides opportunities that can help participants develop confidence, coordination, communication and independence, while enjoying the unique connection between horses and people. For many, sessions are about much more than riding; they offer enjoyment, achievement, friendship and the chance to reach personal goals. However, delivering these opportunities comes with significant ongoing costs. Maintaining equipment and covering the day-to-day expenses of running sessions all require financial support.
This 60th anniversary year is an opportunity to celebrate the past while investing in the future.
Peterborough & District RDA is encouraging the public to mark this special occasion by making a donation, however large or small. Every contribution helps towards the costs of running the group and providing valuable sessions. Local businesses are also invited to support the anniversary appeal through financial donations, pony sponsorship, fundraising partnerships or donations of prizes for fundraising events. Schools, clubs and individuals can make a difference by organising their own fundraising activities or spreading the word about the charity.
A spokesperson for Peterborough & District RDA said: “Reaching our 60th anniversary is a wonderful milestone and an opportunity to celebrate the people, ponies, volunteers and supporters who have helped make our work possible over the years.
“We want to make sure that future generations can continue to benefit from the opportunities that RDA offers. Our ponies are at the heart of everything we do, but keeping our sessions running comes with real costs. We would love our local community to help us celebrate 60 years by supporting our fundraising appeal. Every donation, no matter the size, will be genuinely appreciated.”
As Peterborough & District RDA looks ahead to the next 60 years, the charity hopes the local community will join its anniversary celebrations by helping support its ongoing work.
